Youkey Theatre Information

The famous Youkey Theatre is one arrangement for the RP Funding Centre, originally opened in 1974. The larger venue, formerly known as the Lakeland Civic Center, is a multipurpose complex in Lakeland, Florida that is comprised of a convention center, arena, and theater. The venue is currently the home of the Florida Tropics SC of the Major Arena Soccer League as well as the Lakeland Magic, the Orlando Magic’s affiliate in the NBA G League.

The larger complex has always had a historic association with sports including its time as the home of the Lakeland Loggerheads of the World Hockey Association 2 during their 2003-2004 season, as well as the Lakeland Thunderbolts of the National Indoor Football League from 2005-2007. The complex was also home to the Florida Tarpons in 2018 for their home games, as well as the Florida Marine Raiders of the X-Leauge Indoor Football from 2012 to 2015.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies of the defunct North American Soccer League even used the arena for indoor soccer on several occasions including sixteen home games several years prior from 1983-1984. Many of these teams have since moved on to other homes, but it doesn’t change how deeply tied the complex is to the world of sports.

It’s easy to think that the venue was only used for sports, but it has, traditionally played host to several musical concerts, including two appearances by Elvis Presley in 1975, and The Grateful Dead in 1977 as half of the archival live album, Dick’s Picks Volume 29. Bon Jovi also performed two back-to-back sold-out shows at the venue in 1989 during their New Jersey Syndicate Tour. Duran Duran has also played at the venue on March 26, 1984, as part of their Sing Blue Silver world tour.

The larger RP Funding Centre has always been involved in high-quality athletics and musical performances and the shows that are part of the Youkey Theatre lineup simply continue this proud tradition.
